This is the third in a series of brief, daily posts during October — global ADHD Awareness Month. Each features a quote that relates to ADHD and neurodiversity.
Kids with ADHD need someone in their corner.
Even if you don’t always have the answers, be that someone.
Dr. Ross Greene supports kids and their parents through his program Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (CPS) and his organization Lives in the Balance.
Dr. Greene’s underlying philosophy is, “Kids Do Well If They Can.” Another way this idea is sometimes stated is, “If kids could do well, they would do well.”
According to Dr. Greene, the issue is not whether kids want to do well. They do want to do well! If they had the skills and support to do well, they would do well. Understanding this and building on this understanding is one way to be “in the corner” with challenging kids — and adults, too!
Here’s a brief introductory video from Dr. Greene, if you are interested in learning more about this approach.
